I have a learning disability in addission to my blindness. I wanted to know if some of you have one along with blindness how do you get consepts down or the steps to something in the order that they have to go in. Since I am a massage student I really need some tips so I can have butter luck with getting the routine down in the rite order so I can pass.

I have a few learning disabilities as well as being blind actually as well as a brain condition. I'm not really sure how I do things, I just manage lol. I do have to double check numbers and words when writing those down, to see if I reversed them. I also have other disabilities such as a spacial disorder and I'm also ocd. I've been told I have other disabilities that involved how I get information such as a processing disorder. I am also tactile defencive, which is where I can't stand to touch certain things and certain textures. I wish I could be of more help, but really it's just second nature to do what I do. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Kat

I also have spatial and concept problems. I always had to have special help with mobility issues. I was able to work for a long time though, but knew my limitations and would get help from rehab when needed. If you have the know-how to do massage work, I would contact whoever you need to so you can get the help you need, even if you have to deal with rehab which is not always what we want to do. Hope this advice helps.

sorry to bring this one all the way back up to the top from the list of dead board topics. I've found I have to read sometihng three or four times to understand it, especially if it contains wordy, lengthy sentences. So, I think I've got some trouble with reading comprehension.

I have trouble reading braille out loud fluently. I can read it, and I can read it very quickly when reading to myself, but out loud, even though I know what I'm reading, I sound like someone just learning to read. It's quite embarrassing. I don't know if I have any condition that causes this or not.

I have the same problem when reading Braille; I never knew what that meant.

I have friends who are learning disabled and blind.

I have a friend who thinks I am learning disabled as well as being blind. I don't think so. My psychologist doesn't think so nor does my Psychiatrist.

I had been looking for another discussion but came across this one which I don't remember reading but found I could relate to some of it.
I have the same problem post 5 mentions and found several years ago that I also have the same thing as post 6. Also, as far as stuff relating to reading/written material, I've seemed to always have problems with math. In second grade, I remember always getting in trouble because I wouldn't get my math work done. I would stare at the problems but wouldn't answer them. It wasn't even like I was goofing off or daydreaming or anything, and they were of course problems a second-grader should be able to anser, but yet I couldn't do them and couldn't explain to my teacher why I hadn't gotten them done. I also had trouble with math thru-out the rest of my school years, but never really thought much of it since, starting in middle school, I started being behind in all my classes (which I think was due to sleep and other problems) But in college when my sister had been helping me out with my algebra work. We would do several of the same kinds of problems, along with written steps, and she would make sure I understood what I was learning before we moved on. While this helped a lot, testing was a different thing. I'd go in calmly, sure I'd know what to do, but every time, I'd end up getting low grades on the tests, even though I thought I was doing the problems correctly. I'm not sure whether or not it's a learning disability; I've always just thought that math isn't a strong subject with me. But putting my experiences with it all together, especially remembering how I would stare at or have to reread the problems several times and not getting good grades in math even with outside tutoring does make me think sometimes.

I had behavour problems when a child which might have due to my epilepsy. Now I have depression. But that is a mental health problem.

I know this is kinda old but,

I, too, have to read certain things three or four times before I can completely understand it, especially if it's a math problem. :p And it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who can read relatively fast when reading to myself, but when reading outloud, I sound like a kindergartener just learning how to read. But that might have a lot to do with the fact that due to lack of education in elementary school, I didn't completely catch up to my ideal reading level until I was in the sixth grade. I also tend to read certain things backwards, especially when I'm reading outloud. And sometimes I have issues reading the simplest words, especially if they're in contracted brail. But I've never been diagnosed with dyslexia or any other learning disability..
